My name is Emma Buchanan. I have a BA in Environmental Sustainability & Gender Studies from Dalhousie University (2014) and a Film & Video Production Diploma from George Brown College (2023).

I’ve worked as an organizer, event planner, and public educator for social and environmental justice organizations including: the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE), The Council of Canadians, Youth Ottawa, 350.org, and The Otesha Project. I’m a co-founder of Climate Justice Ottawa and organizer of the Indigenous Solidarity Bike Tour that raised more than $8,500 for the Assembly of 7 Generations.

After a decade in the non-profit field, I decided to switch gears. As someone who has studied theatre, played in bands and orchestras (and even a protest marching band!), and loves documentary film & independent media, I knew I had to find a way to integrate creativity into my work.

I went back to school for film & video in 2021 and the rest is, as they say, history.

I frequently collaborate with Ahmed Fad, a talented cinematographer, editor, and storyteller originally from Sudan who I met at George Brown College.

I can also write questions and interview experts and attendees of your events for captivating and personal social media content.

I can put together a film crew of experienced professionals, hire actors, and production manage/direct one or multiple shoot days to create pieces with very high production value.
Send me existing or archival footage to edit, or have me capture and edit original footage. I’m experienced and trained in the Adobe Suite, including picture editing & audio mixing, motion graphics, and colour correction.
I can add original and dynamic voiceover to your content, or coordinate & direct recordings from professional voiceover actors to add to your project.
